What is the Nuro R3?

The Nuro R3 is a purpose built, occupantless electric delivery vehicle unveiled on January 12, 2022, with no seats or steering wheel, a 500 pound cargo capacity across temperature controlled compartments, a top speed of 45 mph, and an external airbag designed to protect pedestrians and cyclists in a collision. Nuro received a driverless testing permit from the California DMV in July 2024 to run R3 vehicles across Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Menlo Park, but in September 2024 the company shut down its own consumer delivery fleet operations and pivoted to licensing its Nuro Driver software to automakers and mobility companies instead.
